100th Anniversary of the Founding of the San Antonio Kennel Club
On March 13, 2010, the San Antonio Kennel Club celebrated the 100th year since the founding of the club in 1910, with its 165th All Breed Dog Show held at the Morris Center on the Freeman Coliseum grounds. There were 1446 dogs entered from 41 states, as well as from Canada and Mexico.
145 breeds represented with the largest breed entry being 82 Golden Retrievers, filled by 57 Poodles, 49 Chihuahuas, 46 Dachshunds, 38 Samoyeds, 36 French Bulldogs, 35 German Shepherds, 34 Doberman Pinschers, 31 Chinese Cresteds, and 31 Boston Terriers.
The Tibetan Mastiff and the Irish Wolfhound were the biggest dogs shows with the tiny Chihuahuas being the smallest at less than 6 pounds! Dogs were shown by 491 registered agents or by their owner-handlers.
The estimated 2000 plus spectators were able to see not just the judging and grooming of the entered dogs, but also visit the 43 vendors and 2 nonprofit groups that had booths around the show rings.
Most of the same dogs were also entered in the companion shows (Kennel Club of Great Victoria and San Antonio Kennel Club) that were part of the Alamo City Cluster of Dog Shows on March 11th, 12th, and 14th at the same location.
